Icarus by SK Games
[PC and Mac]
Icarus is a simple 2 player co-op game. Each player controls a satellite orbiting a little sun, defending it from the attacking hordes. It’s a suicide mission, but that sounds a little bleak, so instead just focus on trying to rack up a high score before the sun explodes. The satellites shoot through the sun, and when both satellites are lazering away a third, and more powerful, beam appears. It sounds odd, but it’s really quite intuitive when you get the hang of it.
We created Icarus as a more arcade-y feeling game, focusing on simplifying the controls to allow people to experiment with the game without feeling overwhelmed. We’ve really enjoyed seeing people play it at shows, it really pushes the co-op focus and brings strangers together to fight for their little ball of flaming gas. Give it a go if you’re a fan of co-op games, it’s a great little experience with a friend, or a good way to meet new ones.
Icarus is a game I recommend for people curious about creating their own controllers. With a couple of arcade buttons and a keyboard encoder, you can whip up a controller out of anything, and this game works great with a couple of simple custom controllers. Just don’t forget to add alfoil to make it look more…space.
